Checkpoint for “Group and ungroup rows”: the Category, Item, Amount columns and sample records must still match this table after the lesson action.

Common mistakes and fixes

Correction: return to rows 2:3, select the row headers correctly, repeat the grouping command, then compare the sheet with the sample data before continuing.

Independent practice

Repeat the workflow with the two Travel rows (4:5): group them, collapse them, expand them again, then Remove Group. Do not change the source values.

Key takeaways

  • ✓Select row numbers so the complete rows are selected before grouping.
  • ✓Use View more row actions > Group rows 2 - 3 to create the group.
  • ✓The minus control collapses the group; the plus control expands it.
  • ✓Use the row-group control menu > Remove Group to ungroup the rows.
  • ✓Grouping or ungrouping must not change data values or row order.
QUICK CHECK

Check your understanding

Answer four questions about the practice sheet.

1. Which path groups the two Office rows?
2. What does the minus control beside the group bracket do?
3. Which command removes the row group?
4. Should grouping or ungrouping change the source values?
