HANDS-ON PRACTICE

Practice in your own copy

Make your own Google Sheets copy with the same data, formulas, formatting, filter and frozen header. The original remains unchanged.

The _result workbook shows the complete clean source data before the action.

Hands-on practice

Step 1: Select the complete A1:B4 range so Explore receives both headers, Category and Amount, plus all three data rows.

Real Google Sheets evidence for the action step, with the relevant range or menu visible and the cursor placed on the intended control.

Step 2: If your interface shows the Explore button at the bottom-right, click Explore to open the Explore panel. If the button is absent, do not substitute another command and pretend it is Explore; stop here because the feature is not available in the current interface.

Step 3: Only if Explore actually opens in your interface, inspect suggested summaries, pivots, or charts from A1:B4 and compare every number with the source table: Office 55, Travel 95, Food 60; total Amount is 210. If Explore is not present in the current interface, stop at Step 2 and do not treat Gemini or another command as evidence for Explore.

Checkpoint

CategoryAmount
Office55
Travel95
Food60

Checkpoint: A1:B4 still contains the original three source rows and Amount totals 210. When Explore is available, the Explore panel should be showing suggestions based on the selected range rather than data from another sheet.

Common mistakes and fixes

Correction: return to the exact range and command named in the steps, then compare the live sheet with the Category, Amount source fields.

Independent practice

Add one row with the same schema, repeat the action, verify the new row behaves correctly, then remove it to restore the sample.

Key takeaways

  • ✓Select the exact A1:B4 range before opening Explore.
  • ✓Open Explore from the bottom-right Explore button when that control is available.
  • ✓Do not substitute another command when Explore is unavailable in the current interface.
  • ✓Verify every suggestion against the source data; the sample Amount total is 210.
  • ✓Keep the source data unchanged after inspection.
